Welcome from the Headteacher

A warm welcome to The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School and our website.

Autumn 2019

On GCSE results day I had the privilege of sharing the moment of five years culmination of learning with students as they opened their results to find out how they had done, but more importantly whether they had done their best and it was enough to access their college courses. Lot's of anxiety for both student's and parents was soon followed by relief and big smiles with some phenomenal achievements. Special mention must go to  Isobel Lawrence McQueen (seven grade 9's and three grade 8's), Oliver Izzard (five grade 9's with five grade 7+8's), Angus Martin (five grade 9's) and Ellie Macleod, Jessica Ewing, Charlie Jenner, Sam Scott, Jacob Tong and Ethan Forster with exceptional performances.

As Headteacher, I am really proud of the achievements of our students this year who have worked so hard in a climate of challenging national change. Our staff have worked tirelessly to support them and helped to manage the pressure that the new GCSEs present.

As Year Q leave us to start the next chapter of their learning, we are all really excited at Bishop's to welcome our new Year 7's in September. We will start as always with a short service at St Paul's Church to welcome everyone into our Church family so that students can meet their new friends they made at induction day again. Although this new start can be an anxious time, students always settle in very quickly and soon feel very much a part of Bishop's.

To keep our school looking smart we have been busy over the summer holidays redecorating and refurbishing all of the classrooms in the Maths department, completely refurbishing the student toilets in the Technology corridor and painting parts of the PE department. On our return to school we will also emphasise the importance of being smart and proud at all times by wearing the correct uniform and bringing the right equipment to school. If there are any problems getting this right the school shop will always be able to help.

Last year we started a wide ranging consultation on reviewing our school vision to reflect where we want to be in the future. I am pleased to say that after meeting many of you and collating all of your views and thoughts, we have nearly finished combining everything into our vision looking ahead. Please watch this space for more information in the coming weeks.

Kind regards,

Martin Henton
